MWC25 Frontline Report: NIDA Participates in Global WLAN Industry Forum, Jointly Advancing New Developments in Campus Network Experience Standards
[Barcelona, Spain, March 4, 2025] During MWC25, NIDA was invited to attend the Global WLAN Industry Forum held in Barcelona. The forum hosted by the World Wireless LAN Application Development Alliance (WAA), aggrated global industry leaders to explore future trends in WLAN networks, key technological innovations, and the latest advancements in industry standards.
At the forum, NIDA Alliance Secretary-General Deng Yiou, alongside WAA Secretary-General Yang Tao, Dr. Mustafa Aykut, Director of Projects and Public Policy at SAMENA Telecommunications Council, Huawei Vice President Gan Bin, Zhou Jing, General Manager of the Marketing Department at China Mobile (Hangzhou), Zsolt Pesze, General Manager of TÜV Rheinland, and Tian Li, Standard Strategy Director at ZTE, jointly launched the "Enhancing WLAN Network Performance and Experience" initiative. The initiative calls on industry partners to unlock the potential of WLAN through technological innovation, standardization collaboration, pilot projects, and talent development, thereby improving user experience, accelerating WLAN industry upgrades, and contributing to the vision of an interconnected intelligent world.

During the roundtable discussion on "WLAN Industry Ecosystem Development," Guo Xiaoyan, Chair of the NIDA Campus Network Working Group, Chief Engineer of China Northeast Architectural Design and Research Institute, and National Engineering Survey and Design Master, engaged in deep discussions with Tiago Rodrigues, President and CEO of WBA, Ge Xiaohu, Secretary-General of the Short-Range Wireless Communication Committee at the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Damir Filipovic, Secretary-General of AIIOTI, and Zhao Shaoqi, President of Huawei's Campus Network Product Line. The panel addressed key challenges such as collaboration among global standard alliances, the synergy between wired and wireless networks to enhance user experience, and the active role of equipment vendors in the WLAN industry.
WLAN Industry Ecosystem Development Expert Panel Discussion
Guo Xiaoyan elaborated on NIDA Alliance's mission and priorities. He noted that the rise of AI will accelerate the upgrade of enterprise networks. WLAN, as the first point of user access, will be the primary benefited. By 2030, Wi-Fi 7 coverage in Chinese enterprises is expected to exceed 84%. From a user perspective, it is essential to consider not only the bandwidth, low latency, roaming, high-density access, security, integrated sensing, and operation capabilities of WLAN products but also to view the generational evolution of WLAN from the overall network perspective. This requires WLAN to be considered alongside with switches, routers, and controllers as part of the next-generation campus network evolution, which is precisely NIDA's mission. The combination of Wi-Fi 7 and all-optical Ethernet will be the mainstream solution for enterprise network upgrades over the next three years. NIDA will collaborate with various industry organizations to advance the standards for next-generation campus networks.
Guo Xiaoyan, Chair of NIDA Campus Network Working Group, Delivers Key Insights
Guo Xiaoyan emphasized that WLAN development should always prioritize user experience, encompassing wireless, wired, controllers, and business systems. This holistic campus network experience is the most critical metric for evaluating technological solutions and network standards. Based on this consensus, NIDA, together with WAA, NetworldEU, APAC IPv6 Council, Huawei, and Visabeira Group, launched the "User Experience-Centric Campus Network Technology and Standard White Paper" initiative. This initiative aims to unite the entire industry partners, drive technological innovation, and jointly advance the standards for next-generation campus networks. Guo Xiaoyan and Emeritus Sureswaran Ramadass, Vice Chairman of NIDA and Chairman of the APAC IPv6 Council, attended the release ceremony.
Joint Initiative to User Experience-Centric Campus Network Technical and Standard White Paper Released
At the conference, Miao Fu, Vice Chair of the NIDA Campus Network Working Group, detailed the performance testing of WLAN and TSN conducted by the joint innovation team of the Portuguese Telecommunications Institute, Visabeira Group, and Huawei at the RiaStone office and manufacturing site in Portugal. The results demonstrated that Wi-Fi 7, with its lower latency, higher throughput, and superior reliability, combined with TSN technology, successfully achieved seamless roaming, traffic prioritization, and efficient device communication. The high-quality 10-gigabit campus network integrating Wi-Fi 7 and TSN technology shows immense potential in driving the Industrial 4.0 revolution.
Miao Fu, Vice Chair of NIDA Campus Network Working Group, Speaks at the Event
The co-organization and participation in the Global WLAN Industry Forum mark an important step for NIDA in actively engaging in global fixed network technology and standard innovation. Moving forward, NIDA will continue to uphold the principles of openness, inclusivity, and innovation, fostering global industry consensus and fulfilling its mission to define the evolution path and standards for next-generation internet infrastructure, driving the upgrade of the data communication industry.
